Afformations

There is a tool in the self development world that not nearly enough people use or take advantage of.  Sure almost everyone has heard of affirmations where if you tell yourself you have something enough times you eventually believe it and you get it.  I tried that for years and it never worked because I had this little voice in my head arguing with me and telling me that I was telling myself lies.  Well it was hard to disagree because at the time they were lies.

Well I recently learned about something that makes a lot more sense called “Afformations.” The basic theory is to take what you want, and turn it into a question assuming it is already true. This was created by Dr. Noah St. John who really has some amazing ideas that are turning the self help world on it’s head.

For example. Take the ever so popular “I am Rich.” Which your mind will often respond with, “Liar!” And change it to “Why am I so rich?” Your mind can’t argue with you, it needs works to find an answer to the question.

I wrote a brief primer on what Afformations are and how to use them so please download it here. http://drop.io/afformations

If you want to learn more about Afformations and the other systems Noah has to put in place, check out his book The Secret Code of Success.

Top 5 Self Improvement Books

These are my top 5 self improvement books that have had the most influence on me.

  • How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie – This book singlehandedly changed how I interact with people.  Growing up I was a very very introverted person with little to no self esteem.  I had to read this book a couple of times to really get it, but once I did I started seeing people in a new light.  Now I am excited about people and what I can learn from them and how we can help each other have even greater lives.
  • Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill -This is one of the first books that I read growing up that most likely sparked my entrepreneur streak.  The title alone explains one of the major keys to success in which you have to think first, then grow rich.  You have to believe and act like a millionaire before you can become one.
  • The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss – I heard about this book by following SXSWi which is a big web design convention.  The concept sounded very interesting to me so I picked up the book.  I’m really happy I did because from it I have learned the power of Outsourcing.  There is no way I can do everything myself, and the more I can outsource, the more I can get done and the more money I can make.
  • The Maui Millionaires by Diane Kennedy and David Finkel – This book introduced me to the concept of masterminds.  I had heard of them in the past but didn’t really understand the concept.  After reading Maui Millionaires I truly believe that anyone who wants to be massively successful needs to be involved in a mastermind group.
  • The Secret Code of Success by Noah St. John – I’ve known for a long time that the majority of success is mental.  I figured I had some great Why’s and How’s to become super successful.  And I do.  The problem was, I never addressed the Why-Not To’s of success and was subconciously holding myself back.  The concept of Afformations is also an amazingly powerful thing that I learned in this book.  Instead of using empowering statements, which our mind will sometimes argue with, it uses empowering questions.  Such as “Why am I so rich?”  To learn more about just afformations, I created a primer which you can download at http://drop.io/afformations
